We are proud have a family-friendly office and try to make visits for your little one as comfortable as possible. They will see the same familiar faces at each visit with Dr. McKernan. We offer several pediatric services including well-child check-ups, immunizations, sick visits and injury visits. We strive to have same-day acute care appointments available for children if necessary and Dr. McKernan makes himself available after-hours by phone call for emergency situations.
At each well-child check-up we will measure your child’s weight, height and pertinent vital signs. We will have growth charts available at your request. A complete physical examination and thorough history will be performed, and you will have an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns that you have regarding your child. A handout regarding appropriate milestones will be provided based on your child’s age and immunizations will be administered according to the CDC recommended schedule (birth to 6 years) (7-18 years).

We are strong believers in the effectiveness and the safety of vaccinations at Vitae Family Care. We believe that the evidence overwhelmingly shows the benefits of vaccines outweigh any risks. As a community we are seeing some population changes, as well as seeing more families decide to selectively vaccinate. This lessens the strength of her immunity - which protects those who are unable to be vaccinated or are still too young to be vaccinated.
If you decide to delay or refuse vaccinations, we will require you, the parent or legal guardian, to sign the American Academy of Pediatrics Vaccination Refusal form (see form) to have on record in your child’s chart. This form will be reviewed at each well-child appointment after vaccination recommendations and/or changes are discussed. ** If you decide not to sign the American Academy of Pediatrics Vaccination Refusal Form, we will unfortunately be unable to see your child in our office.
If at any time you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s health, Dr. McKernan will be glad to discuss this with you. He is also available for his established patients by phone after hours for emergencies.
